Oh what I would do to have the kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant with just a sling and a stone! Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors shaking in their armor, wishing they'd have had the strength to stand.
But the giant's calling out my name and he laughs at me, reminding me of all the times I've tried before and failed. The giant keeps on telling me time and time again, "Boy, you'll never win! You'll never win."
But the voice of truth tells me a different story! The voice of truth says "Do not be afraid!" The voice of truth says "This is for My glory!" Out of all the voices calling out to me, I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth!
So says the song by Casting Crowns. And how true it is! (That's probably why it's so comforting.) Yet there is still this constant worry. What if I mess up?
One can get anxious right before a mission trip. My group leaves tomorrow to go beach witnessing, and I'm totally stoked. I've been waiting for this trip since the summer before seventh grade. It's almost like a dream. It's hard to believe we're leaving tomorrow.
But now that it's less than twenty four hours away, there is this feeling of excited nervousness in the pit of my stomach. I probably won't sleep much tonight. Worried? I think so. A little bit. Or maybe a little more than a little bit.
Let's finish the Casting Crowns song now...
But the stone was just the right size to put the giant on the ground. And the waves, they don't seem so high from on top of them looking down. I will soar with the wings of eagles when I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus singing over me!
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth!
So the stone that David threw? It was just the right size. The waves? When you see the big picture, they're not as colossal. And who's in control of that? The Creator of the Universe, Heavenly Father, Eternal Friend, Ultimate Carpenter, and the lover of our souls. I think He can handle it.
Last thing...
Matthew 6:34~
"Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."
Mark 2:13~
"He went out again beside the sea, and all the crowd was coming to him, and he was teaching them."
(aka Jesus goes to beaches too.)
